Why We Started Stride Living — And Who It's Really For

Three older adults enjoying time together, laughing and connected

Three people sharing a warm moment together — capturing the connection and joy that Stride Living supports.

There's a moment that every NHS therapist knows well. You've built a relationship with a patient. You've seen them make real progress. And then the sessions end — not because they're ready, but because the treatment pathway has run its course.

For us, that moment never got easier.

We're Kelli and Emma, co-founders of Stride Living and Senior Therapy Assistants at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Between us we've spent years working with adults in hospital and community settings — helping people recover, regain confidence and get back to living life on their own terms.

We love that work. But we kept seeing the same pattern. People reaching the end of their NHS pathway who still had so much further to go. Adults quietly withdrawing from the things they used to enjoy because their mobility had changed and the confidence had gone with it. People managing alone — not wanting to worry family, not ready for formal care — but without anyone in their corner.

That gap frustrated us. So we decided to do something about it.

Stride Living is a professionally informed independence support service — not a care agency, not a medical service, but something different. Friendly, consistent, practical support for adults who want to stay active, connected and full of life while they're still doing things their way.

We work with people who are recovering from illness or injury and want to keep making progress once their NHS treatment pathway has concluded. People who've noticed their world getting a little smaller and want to push back against that. People whose families live far away and want the reassurance that someone is there.

And then there's someone we think about a lot — the person who is perfectly well. No diagnosis, no medical need. But the days have got quieter, the phone rings less, and the things that used to fill the week somehow stopped happening. They're not unwell. They're just lonely. And that matters just as much.

If any of that sounds familiar — whether it's you or someone you love — we'd really like to talk.
